wet weather resin installs

Over the last few years we have posted on our website with regard to resin bonded stone and resin bonded aggregate and the possible problems with wet weather resin installs.

Over the last few years concrete has come under a lot of investigation and in spite of the harm that badly planned use of concrete can do, well-planned concrete construction can have many sustainable benefits. This is why we choose to work with existing surfaces. Not only is concrete an invaluable product it is one of the most durable building materials. It provides superior fire resistance compared with wooden construction and gains strength over time. Structures made of concrete can have a long service life. Concrete is used more than any other manmade material in the world.[ As of 2006, about 7.5 billion cubic meters of concrete are made each year, more than one cubic meter for every person on Earth
This is why we resurface existing surfaces (including imprinted,  concrete and tarmac) – the durability and stability to taking the weight of a vehicle and being suitable for a driveway.

However, as with all works preparation is key and no matter what you read the resin industry has not come up with the perfect cure to the British weather yet!
In 2013  we said  “As with all good things there is a down side and that is the weather! Once the resin is down and you have your resin bonded path or resin bonded patio for example, that is fine. BUT when it is being installed it does need to be a dry surface and the weather needs to be your best friend for a few hours.
There are companies who say their resin product can be applied in all weathers! Well we have been installing anti slip surfacing for over 12 years, and not once have we laid our resin on a wet surface.  Resin will emulsify with water – it will go cloudy and milky and will not cure.  So couple incorrect installations with scams

This news in the paper today, reinforces the need to be careful when choosing your installer and one of the best recommendation is by local works. Find a local installer with local examples and ask these customers if their’s was one of the wet weather resin installs  and the correct answer should be no!
Resin is an extremely durable product but it need a good base , a good product and most importantly a good and knowledgeable installer.
