For a fresh new and extended driveway resin bonded stone can provide uniformity and a durable quality to an otherwise limiting access. This Mansfield client wanted to extend and incorporate more hard standing area so we completed this Mansfield driveway resin refurbishment. We could say completed in a day but that would be untrue as we had to extend the area first.

resin bonded USP

a resin bonded USP for your concrete or patio would have to be the fact that it uses an existing surface as a base.

Not all resin resurfacing is bonded and therefore does not provide the benefit of the USP on using an existing surface. This week we have been provided with a number of enquiries all needing clarification as to the difference between resin bonded and resin bound surfacing and paving options.

We are Mansfield based and have been working with resin for nearly 2 decades and even to this day we still have to clarify the differences in resin, its purposes and uses and the benefits.

We have even recently seen a resurfacing with resin on a block paved drive which is not a something we advocate. Resin is a solid monolithic surface the same as concrete and tarmac and installing resin bonded stone on an impermeable surface means it reinforces the stability and strength of the resin. The USP being it uses existing surfaces. Don’t take our word for it. Call for an example near you.

Mansfield Ashfield Sutton Chesterfield Higham Alfreton Shirland Westhouse Stonebroom Morton Pilsey Tibshelf Stanton Hill Shirebrook

Commercial or residential we can help.

Drive-Cote Ltd resin bonded website revamp

Drive-Cote Ltd resin bonded website revamp is on the cards for our Drive-Cote Ltd company

We have been installing for over 15 years now with quite a lot of our history recorded on the website and the thing with websites is that they soon become outdated.

Mobile devices being a popular search tool now like different versions than the standard desktop versions.

The Drive-Cote Ltd resin bonded website revamp will hopefully help reach our audience a little easier.

[See image gallery at www.drive-cote.co.uk] Resin bonded stone was originally used on the roadways but it soon progressed to residential surfaces which is where our start was. Resin bonded stone being a durable but attractive product means that existing surfaces can be resurfaced.

So keep checking in and see if we have upgraded yet! Concrete, imprinted concrete or tarmac (path or patio) we can resurface for a virtually weed and maintenance free surface. (don’t forget we can’t do block paving)

Or come and see resin bonded stone in situ! Here at Drive-Cote Ltd 63 Berry Hill Lane Mansfield Notts NG18 4BP

correct resin aggregate – How important is it?

VERY important to use the correct resin aggregate is the answer!

The correct resin aggregate can make or break a job. The size and the quality of the aggregate is extremely important and one such supplier of aggregates is Derbyshire Aggregates who for the last 30 years have provided for pebble dashing and also supplied chippings and landscape aggregates for paths and drives. This then led them onto specialist and coloured aggregates which in due course led into the resin bonded and bound markets in the UK needing clean, dry, hard, coloured aggregates of a high quality and consistency.

Derbyshire Aggregates are one of the specialist suppliers we use due to their reliability and quality.

Earlier in the year we talked about rust spots which in the past have been an issue and it is extremely important that your installer is aware of the potential issues with using the incorrect resin aggregate.

We advised the client to return to the installer and we have been updated as follows

“Afternoon Faith, I would appreciate if you could inform Simon that the drive surface will be recovered and re-laid. Company who supplied aggregate will re supply for free and the company that laid the drive will also perform all work for free. Good result but shame it occurred in first place. Please thank Simon for his knowledgeable and sound advice. The problem is with one of the aggregates containing iron!! Will choose a different colour this time. Original colour is a honey/oatmeal type colour. All the best”

If the correct resin aggregate had been used in the first place it would have saved time, money and a concerned customer. Having said that it is a credit to the company concerned as they are remedying the situation and will now be using the correct resin aggregate.

There are various remedies to remove rust spots but generally if the actual media has the metals incorporated in it (such as the one used here) you will not be able to remove the rust spots as they will continue to leach due to the oxidation if the metal in the aggregate.

Recovering with the correct resin aggregate is the only real solution. Whether it is a resin bonded stone or resin bound installation.

Mansfield, Southwell, Tibshelf, Huthwaite, Ripley Ollerton, Wellow, Swanwick, Somercotes and Chesterfield call for a free quote. Not sure of the finish you would like? Ask away.

Resin bonded stone and aggregate finishes can protect and ensure longevity of your exiswting surface.

winter anti slip resin

Once again we reach the time of year where winter anti slip resin is in high demand! Unfortunately the dictates of the weather can hinder applications and installations. Due to the simplicity of installation ( using existing surfaces such as tarmac, concrete and imprinted concrete) our winter anti slip resin is usually in high demand.

No matter what you read and the claims made such as – “cures in freezing temperatures” “can install when raining”, be very aware that resin is a very peculiar creature. However in defense of these statements – so is the weather. We have had above average temperatures over the past few months in fact the met office says

“The generally unsettled and mild theme of October continued through most of November, with only short periods of drier weather. Low pressure was often over or to the west of the UK for the first half of the month bringing rain and strong winds at times. However, with these winds frequently from a southerly direction, the month again saw well above average temperatures”

So for winter anti slip resin to be installed there are good possibilites when the weather is so deviant to the expected temperatures for the season.

We have been called out to quote for a war memorial ( not for winter anti slip properties) but to maintain this important record of history.

The local parish council have been awarded sum funds to update this piece of history. They have enlisted their own builder to provide the preparation works for the job, and we have been out to assess the potential. We did advise the client on the prep works and these are currently undergoing completion.

So not only is our winter anti slip resin suitable for driveways paths and patios it is perfect for war memorials. Don’t forget it is a virtually weed free option too!

Found this on the internet and I bet resin stone Sydney doesn’t have the same issues as the UK with the weather holding them to ransom.

On saying that too high a temperature can have a negative on the resin installation as well!

I also found a pour on resin they are using in Sydney. This website provides a case study for information.

This is not something we as a company provide however, it would be interesting to see how it wears. The report goes on to say

“Midland Interchange, WA

In 2012 over 3500m² of Pour On Gravel Binder was used to stablise a decorative gravel finish to a newly developed landscape feature at the busy interchange in Midland, WA.

The process of installation is as simple as it seems. A 20ltr bucket is prepared by drilling 1-2mm sized holes through the bottom of the bucket and simply walking the resin over the loose gravel ensuring an even application.

This process is usually completed in two or three layers and can be smoothed out with a straight edge or even a steel trowel immediately after the first resin application. Alternatively a rougher finish can be achieve as was required on this project to discourage foot, bicycle and skateboard trafficking”.

Resin stone, resin bonded aggregate and resin bound paving are all variations of use of a very versatile product!

What are the seasons? Find out what causes them and when they start?

Why are we bothered? Because the weather and seasons affect us all. As individuals and as a business. The Met Office report goes on to say

“We often talk about the seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter – and the weather that they bring, but what causes them and when do they begin and end? The Met Office goes on to talk about Climate change which once again affects us all. The Met Office goes on to highlight important aspects

“Climate change is a large-scale, long-term shift in the planet’s weather patterns or average temperatures. Earth has had tropical climates and ice ages many times in its 4.5 billion years. So what’s happening now?

Since the last ice age, which ended about 11,000 years ago, Earth’s climate has been relatively stable at about 14 °C. However, in recent years, the average temperature has been increasing.

The information below details the seven main sources of evidence for climate change. You can find out more about the difference between weather and climate, what drives our climate and how our climate is changing in our climate infographic or scroll to the foot of this page for our video – What is climate change?

Higher temperatures

Scientific research shows that the climate – that is, the average temperature of the planet’s surface – has risen by 0.89 °C from 1901 to 2012. Compared with climate change patterns throughout Earth’s history, the rate of temperature rise since the Industrial Revolution is extremely high.

Changing rainfall

There have been observed changes in precipitation, but not all areas have data over long periods. Rainfall has increased in the mid-latitudes of the northern hemisphere since the beginning of the 20th century. There are also changes between seasons in different regions. For example, the UK’s summer rainfall is decreasing on average, while winter rainfall is increasing. There is also evidence that heavy rainfall events have become more intensive, especially over North America.

Changes in nature

Changes in the seasons (such as the UK spring starting earlier, autumn starting later) are bringing changes in the behaviour of species, for example, butterflies appearing earlier in the year and birds shifting their migration patterns”.

In addition Urban heat island is discussed in wikepedia it reports “ An urban heat island (UHI) is a metropolitan area that is significantly warmer than its surrounding rural areas due to human activities. The phenomenon was first investigated and described by Luke Howard in the 1810s, although he was not the one to name the phenomenon”

Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive enquiries

The weather is certainly promoting interest in the driveway sector this week. We have come across a mix of surfaces to quote for. Ranging from garden projects to resin bound paving. Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive enquiries being the most prevalent at the moment.

Our suppliers of the aggregates for our resurfacing have recently celebrated over 30 years of trading in specialist aggregates.

Quite a few of our customers are surprised how specialised the materials are that we use. This is what makes a resin drive a durable and effective product.

The Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive enquiries this week were residential prospects. However commercial requests are a lot more popular now as well. The demand for the resin is increasing by the year. We like to consider this to be a recycling option for a driveway, path or patio. No skips required to remove the existing.

Large commercial installations can offer an effective option saving on the mess and disruption which can be caused by the more common options such as block paving. Why? Because with the resin bonded resurfacing we at Drive-Cote offer, works can be completed in a day and can be driven on the same day. We will hasten to add not in all cases as size does have a bearing. In addition the resin bonded resurfacing needs to be laid on a dry surface to ensure maximum efficacy. This also means we are quite often at the mercy of the weather.

Large projects completed by commercial companies can boast the benefits of resin bonded resurfacing

The life span for a Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive for example can vary from 5 to 15 years. In most cases longer than this. The choice of specialist aggregates used and the general use of the surface can all have a bearing. As an example the same choice of aggregate for a driveway will have a more extensive durability than an installation used for a car park for instance. The surface to which the aggregate is applied will also have a bearing. And remember a resin drive can offer a virtually weed free anti slip option.

What should be important to remember is the fact that our Drive-Cote Ltd resurfacing stems from road use. Therefore for residential areas such as Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drives paths or patios are in excess of the requirements for general use.

Gardens driveways drainage floods

Gardens driveways drainage floods – all being discussed in great detail over the past few weeks. Who is to blame? Can anyone be blamed for gardens driveways drainage floods?

Blame cannot be directed to any one particular cause or can it ? Is it the large housing developments the UK is under pressure to produce? Is it paving over driveways? Or is it global warming? Or is it all these things?

I have seen a couple of reports recently and one or two discussions over the last day or two and even Alan Titchmarsh has waded into the debate (excuse the pun).

In the report which Alan Titchmarsh commented on it goes on to say

“Lord Krebs claimed driveways and patios let rain-water run straight into rivers and led to flooding”

He said: “We need TV gardeners to tell people not to put down patios and decking.”

It is even said that experts believe floodwaters won’t now ebb until the summer! Will we see a drought then?

Lots of opinions on landscape Juice One of the contributors on the network goes on to say

“The paving /tarmac and loss of soil may lead to a bit more surface water but nothing to do with the floods we are seeing now. I blame what we are getting now on climate change”

and another opinion as follows:

“Also if the planning authorities allow building on flood plains and you buy a house on a flood plain guess what? the clue is in the name “Flood plain” your house will Flood!! so dont blame anyone else but yourself for the purchase. If you want to live in a house near a river then every now and then expect to be flooded….dont blame the agenicies for not dredging It”

Climate changes? Bad planning and management?

Gardens driveways drainage floods whatever the cause, whatever the result, we need to be more respectful of the environment.

As a resin bonded aggregate company we work with drainage all the time. Recyling and managing water and waste is key. We must all try. Things will not get any better, but what we do have to do is manage the best we can.
