a resin bonded USP for your concrete or patio would have to be the fact that it uses an existing surface as a base.

Not all resin resurfacing is bonded and therefore does not provide the benefit of the USP on using an existing surface.  This week we have been provided with a number of enquiries all needing clarification as to the difference between resin bonded and resin bound surfacing and paving options.

We are Mansfield based and have been working with resin for nearly 2 decades and even to this day we still have to clarify the differences in resin, its purposes and uses and the benefits.

We have even recently seen a resurfacing with resin on a block paved drive which is not a something we advocate. VERY important to use the correct resin aggregate is the answer!

The correct resin aggregate can make or break a job.  The size and the quality of the aggregate is extremely important and one such supplier of aggregates is Derbyshire Aggregates who for the last 30 years have provided for pebble dashing and also supplied chippings and landscape aggregates for paths and drives. This then led them  onto specialist and coloured aggregates which in due course led into the resin bonded and bound markets in the UK  needing clean, dry, hard, coloured aggregates of a high quality and consistency.

Earlier in the year we talked about rust spots which in the past have been an issue and it is extremely important that your installer is aware of the potential issues with using the incorrect resin aggregate.

We advised the client to return to the installer and we have been updated as follows

“Afternoon Faith, I would appreciate if you could inform Simon that the drive surface will be recovered and re-laid.  Company who supplied aggregate will re supply for free and the company that laid the drive will also perform all work for free. Good result but shame it occurred in first place. Please thank Simon for his knowledgeable and sound advice.  The problem is with one of the aggregates containing iron!! Will choose a different colour this time. Original colour is a honey/oatmeal type colour. All the best”

 If the correct resin aggregate had been used in the first place it would have saved time, money and a concerned customer.  Having said that it is a credit to the company concerned as they are remedying the situation and will now be using the correct resin aggregate.

There are various remedies to remove rust spots but generally if the actual media has the metals incorporated in it (such as the one used here)  you will not be able to remove the rust spots as they will continue to leach due to the oxidation if the metal in the aggregate.

Recovering with the correct resin aggregate is the only real solution.  Whether it is a resin bonded stone or resin bound installation.

Once again we reach the time of year where winter anti slip resin is in high demand! Unfortunately the dictates of the weather can hinder applications and installations.  Due to the simplicity of installation ( using existing surfaces such as tarmac, concrete and imprinted concrete) our winter anti slip resin is usually in high demand.

No matter what you read and the claims made such as  – “cures in freezing temperatures” “can install when raining”, be very aware that resin is a very peculiar creature.  However in defense of these statements –  so is the weather.  We have had above average temperatures over the past few months in fact the met office says

“The generally unsettled and mild theme of October continued through most of November, with only short periods of drier weather. Low pressure was often over or to the west of the UK for the first half of the month bringing rain and strong winds at times. However, with these winds frequently from a southerly direction, the month again saw well above average temperatures”

So for winter anti slip resin to be installed there are good possibilites when the weather is so deviant to the expected  temperatures for the season.

We have been called out to quote for a war memorial ( not for winter anti slip properties) but to maintain this important record of history.

The local parish council  have been awarded sum funds to update this piece of history.  They have enlisted their own builder to provide the preparation works for the job, and we have been out to assess the potential.  We did advise the client on the prep works and these are currently undergoing completion.

So not only is our winter anti slip resin suitable for  driveways paths and patios it is perfect for war memorials.  Don’t forget it is a virtually weed free option too!

Found this on the internet and I bet resin stone Sydney  doesn’t have the same issues as the UK with the weather holding them to ransom.

On saying that too high a temperature can have a negative on the resin installation as well!

I also found a pour on resin they are using in Sydney.  This website provides a case study for information.

Gardens driveways drainage floods – all being discussed in great detail over the past few weeks.  Who is to blame?  Can anyone be blamed for gardens driveways drainage floods?

Blame cannot be directed  to any one particular cause  or can it ?  Is it the large housing developments  the UK is under pressure to produce?  Is it paving over driveways?  Or is it global warming?  Or is it all these things?

I have seen a couple of reports recently  and one or two discussions over the last day or two  and even Alan  Titchmarsh has waded into the debate (excuse the pun).

In the report which Alan Titchmarsh commented on  it goes on to say

“Lord Krebs claimed driveways and patios let rain-water run straight into rivers and led to flooding”

He said: “We need TV gardeners to tell people not to put down patios and decking.”

It is even said that experts believe floodwaters won’t now ebb until the summer!  Will we see a drought then?

Lots of opinions on landscape Juice   One of  the contributors on the network goes on to say

“The paving /tarmac and loss of soil may lead to a bit more surface water but nothing to do with the floods we are seeing now. I blame what we are getting now on climate change”

and another  opinion as follows:

“Also if the planning authorities allow building on flood plains and you buy a house on a flood plain guess what? the clue is in the name “Flood plain” your house will Flood!! so dont blame anyone else but yourself for the purchase. If you want to live in a house near a river then every now and then expect to be flooded….dont blame the agenicies for not dredging It”

Climate changes? Bad planning and management?
