Over the past 15 to 20 years  resin bonded stone demand has increased massively.  The reasons for this are varied. Suppliers and installers would say –

speed of install   durablity    attractiveness   permeability    versality  anti slip properties

and these are just a few of the benefits!

We have been completing resin bonded stone resurfacing works for nearly 20 years.  We first started to record images and historical resin bonded stone works on our website information in 2012.  However our records go further back thank this.

Our original resin bonded stone works were completed with an Epoxy product but over the years and with development in technology we moved on to polyurethane which is a much improved resin.

All indicators of the free draining qualities of resin bound.  But the Suds principals actually cover a number of options and choices.   Meaning  porous permeable suds compliant resin does not have to be a necessary resin option.  Resin bonded meets the required spec because

“Sustainable drainage is a departure from the traditional approach to draining sites. There are some key principles that influence the planning and design process enabling SuDS to mimic natural drainage by:

• storing runoff and releasing it slowly (attenuation)
• harvesting and using the rain close to where it falls
• allowing water to soak into the ground (infiltration)
• Slowly transporting (conveying) water on the surface
• filtering out pollutants
• allowing sediments to settle out by controlling the flow of the water

Surface water is a valuable resource and this should be reflected in that way is is managed. It should be considered from the beginning of the development process and throughout, influencing the design and layout of public open space, transport networks etc. It is important, where appropriate and particularly on larger developments that an interdisciplinary team (planners, engineers, landscape architects) should work together from the outset. SuDS are very flexible and there are a number of ways that they can applied to provide great drainage that are both value for money and inspirational.

So resin bonded stone can be a Suds Compliant resurfacing option.  Whilst being impermeable (which is an advantage as it) if the run off water on a new front  hard landscaping area is managed then it is Suds compliant.”

I have a forty year old concrete drive which although cracked in places is very solid. These have probably been there since the 1980’s as I have seen little change since then. Thank you for your email.  Guilty as charged!   that  was me on “outandabout live”! 

Simon has looked at your images and based on an assumption that the levels are not too differing on the different sections, with good prep works the resin bonded stone should be able to be resurfaced.  As with all works its about a site visit and good prep work. 

You are correct we are too far to be able to complete the works.  However there are 2 National companies who have installers in different areas.  Just remember and be aware a lot of companies favour the bound (requiring the existing surface to be removed).  However with resin bonded this is designed to resurface existing surfaces. 

Addagrip seem to work more with resin bonded  so I would start with them first.  Also if you look local – shopping centres and walk ways –  you will probably find works completed – contact the council and see if they can tell you who installed the surface and whilst they may be commercial and bound-  they may well be able to recommend a local installer.

Imprinted concrete, tarmac or concrete we can resurface (subject to a site survey).   Anti slip and virtually weedfree.  No mess and no disruption and no or minimum  costly landfill disposal requirements.  Our resurfacing option does not affect existing surfaces.

Cost – is it per sqm?

Does it include removing any waste?  Similarly materials?

Suitability of surface – do you have concrete? Can it be installed on tarmac?  Is the surface structurally sound?

Aggregate and resin choice – does the size of the aggregate have a bearing on the install?

Bauxite? Natural? Coloured?

Drainage is that a necessary? 

What are  the choices? Does it have to be a standard drainage system? What about permeability?

What about a sloping surface?

All these questions make stone resin driveway considerations important. A necessary first step before taking on any works.

You can enhance or extend the life of existing surfaces.  Hence one of the important benefits of a resin bonded stone finish. Which is its ability to protect.  Only if applied correctly. 

Masking areas is  part of the preparation work.  Or it should be.   But also make sure manholes and edges are protected. Health and Safety for that reason must also be a consideration. Furthermore marking of hazard areas is a must.

Speed of installation is key.  But will vary according to the time of year.  Resin is very sensitive product.  Timing is key. From the time the resin is agitated through to the time it is installed. Also as a result the weather needs to be a consideration.

What is one of the key benefits  resin bonded stone installations?  The anti slip surfacing.  Therefore slippy slopes and slippy surfaces can be eliminated.  Also with the installation of resin on a sloped area comes the complexity.   Managing the resin can be an issue.  Consequently timing is key.
