resin suitability

We have recently been asked by a relative of a local Mansfield resident with regard to the resin suitability for slabs and block patio areas.  Out of our area unfortunately and not necessarily suitable, but we  can very often establish quite a lot from images but sometimes without actually doing a site visit it is not possible to advise on the resin suitability.  However we wrote to the lady  on viewing the images sent to establish the resin suitability.

We replied as follows

resin suitability assess resin suitablity

Thank you for the details and the images.

On looking at the pictures you have sent we would say there would be serious doubt as to the suitability of the surface.

Resin is best applied to solid monolithic surfaces such as concrete or tarmac as independent slabs or blocks can stress the resin putting into question the integrity of the product. This means then that there is a potential for the resin to crack.  It is very often impossible to ensure that all slabs/blocks are bedded and won’t move so there will always be doubt as to the resin suitability.  We would say that as it is only foot traffic there is less weight bearing so there is more possibility of the resin suitability

In addition there would be a lot of prep work filling in between all the blocks/slabs and anything with a detailed surface such as the riven slabs  have the potential to show through on the resin.

That is not to say,  it is not possible or that it would not be suitable.  We would really need a site visit and that would be impractical.

Sorry to be so vague but it would be impossible to provide any more detail with regard to this”.

In over 14 years of resin installations each job is addressed on its own merits.  No two jobs are the same, no two surfaces and no two customers are the same.

One all round informative source of help for consumers and installers alike says

Uses and applications for resin

One great advantage of the resin-base surfacing systems is their versatility. They can be used on more or less any project, or any scale, to suit any budget. Possible uses include internal flooring, driveways, paths and patios, footways, cycleways, bus lanes and road junctions, commercial properties, car parks … the list really is endless! “
