resin steel anti slip surfacing

This week we have received a request to provide anti slip surfacing for a steel surface for a local company. This is a project we will be looking to complete at the earliest as, as always resurfacing works are required as a matter or urgency.

This week the forecast is a frosty outlook, so it will not be an option to complete the works too soon.

Each year the UK is subject to diverse winter weathers! Snow and rain, frost and sunshine! These elements can create issues on tarmac and concrete surfaces (you only have to look at the roads and potholes). With our resin bonded surfacing being quite aggressive to the touch, there is not much out there for the driveway paving and patio surfaces to rival the superb anti slip qualities Drive-Cote’s resin bonded aggregate can provide.

We have been working with resin now for a number of years see our previous posts on works and enquiries.

impermeable resin

Lots of enquiries this week from pool surrounds to concrete and grassed areas in need of addressing with impermeable resin bonded aggregate.

Unfortunately one was in Tiverton and the other one in Liverpool, so not really feasible for Drive-Cote to complete. However a quote in Nuthall and one to complete Kirkby in Ashfield may prove to be potential.

Resin installs always depend on the surfaces already down but also includes the needs of the potential customers and funds available and that is just some of the considerations.

We pride ourselves at Drive-Cote Ltd on assessing each individual case on its own merits and just as importantly providing an honest service. If it is not the right option then we won’t quote.

[See image gallery at www.drive-cote.co.uk]

We always highlight to our enquiries that there are two options of resin installations available. One being porous (permeable resin) one non porous (impermeable resin) both being dependant on the needs or purposes of the client/surface. All our advice is free, our quotes are free and we try to be honest and open at all times.

There is no wrong or right just a correct product for the correct purpose.

For instance no matter how permeable a surface is if the correct substrate is not in place it won’t permeate fully and can be a potential for the freeze thaw process.

We at Drive-Cote have a preference for impermeable resin installs for a number of reasons including

No weeds

Uses existing surface

Virtually no maintenance

Doesn’t affect existing levels.

All of which are less applicable to impermeable resin.

Weeds can get a hold on the resin bound surface (permeable paving) – they can embed in the resin and as a result of this damage the surface.

Using existing surfaces (concrete and tarmac which are impermeable) for resin bound surfaces means you are putting a porous on to a non porous so where does the water permeate to creating a need to ensure that the correct falls, correct substrate and/ or drainage is in place.

Maintenance is a need for bound installs, clearing of debris and ensuring weeds do not achieve weed growth. Moss and algae are more prevalent as like weeds with a porous surface they can get a grasp on the surface and create a slippy surface.

Resin bonded stone which is an impermeable surface does not affect existing levels as it is only about 5-8mm in depth on install. However being a tough and durable surface (used for anti slip surfacing on roadways) it is well above spec and requirements of a residential driveway path or patio).

It would be nice to be able to say that the perfect driveway path or patio surface exists but that is not the case. Just as an example if you hate the idea of maintenance then consider the fact that imprinted concrete and block paving both need maintenance.

resin aggregate driveway benefits

What is or are resin aggregate driveway benefits – where do we start?

Durable

Virtually no maintenance

Anti slip

Cost effective

Can be completed in a day

Attractive

Suds compliance

Virtually weed free surface

Choice of colours and finishes.

Uses the existing surface.

That’s quite a list for resin aggregate driveway benefits. Whether your existing surfaces are concrete, tarmac or imprinted concrete and even slabs in some cases, resin bonded stone can be applied.

To elaborate a little on the above benefits – Suds Compliance for eg. Our clients very often believe that they must have a permeable surface to be Suds Compliant. This is not the case. What the Suds Compliance requirement is, is that “run off water is managed”. As simple as that. That could mean the surface area you already have is Suds Compliant. In addition this only applies to front gardens! Resin aggregate driveway benefits can enhance, protect and extend the life of your existing surface.

What a lot of clients do not realise is that that surface they already have may not look very nice but a lot of the time this can be surface damage only. In the case of concrete it is an extremely versatile product and has been around for years. Concrete as a base to for weight bearing purposes is a product that is hard to beat. So whether you are in Mansfield, Wellow, Ollerton, Ilkeston, Ripley, Stonebroom, Alfreton, Sbirebrook. Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire or Leicestershire. Call us for a free no obligation chat. We can send you some information out, or call out and quote. Don’t forget your driveway path or patio can enhance your garden. If you have a block paved edge no problem one of the resin aggregate driveway benefits is that it does not affect existing levels.

What you need to look for is resin bonded stone as opposed to resin bound stone. I don’t know if you are aware of the difference ?

If your existing paths are a solid impermeable surface ( which concrete is) then you need a resurfacing product to that provides a further impermeable surface a permeable surface and a resin garden path in resin bonded aggregate would provide this.

Basically if the existing is fine then you just need to protect it further. The resin bonded stone is impermeable and anti slip and virtually eliminates weeds (water can’t get down and weeds can’t get a grip). If you looked at the other option – resin bound paving ( or aggregates as it is also known) , then you need to be aware.

This is permeable and therefore allows the ingress of water. The other quite important aspect is the depth of the layer of resin. Resin bound is trowelled on and should be applied to a 10 mm + depth which in turn can affect the existing levels.

Resin bonded is spread on and then has the specialist aggregate applied and will not affect the existing levels. Back to your question – can we recommend any one? The short answer is no.

However what we do say is that there are National Companies who train installers, however be aware that these seem to favour resin bound. That said, you will find that the installers should be trained in both applications. So bearing in mind the points above, you can put these comparisons to the companies and form your own opinion from there.

The other thing to do is look locally and you will find that resin is in various shopping centres and on the local highways? I would contact the local shopping centres and ask who completed the works.

Also contact your local highways/ council and you may will find that they will supply you with the details of the local contractors. They may well do residential and if not they may well know a man who does!

Hope I have been of help. If you have any questions – don’t hesitate to come back to me”

Whether it is a driveway path or patio, if it is concrete or tarmac we can resurface with resin bonded stone. No mess no disruption and just as importantly it can help eliminate weeds, moss and algae problems in addition it will provide an anti slip quality.

Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive enquiries

The weather is certainly promoting interest in the driveway sector this week. We have come across a mix of surfaces to quote for. Ranging from garden projects to resin bound paving. Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive enquiries being the most prevalent at the moment.

Our suppliers of the aggregates for our resurfacing have recently celebrated over 30 years of trading in specialist aggregates.

Quite a few of our customers are surprised how specialised the materials are that we use. This is what makes a resin drive a durable and effective product.

The Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive enquiries this week were residential prospects. However commercial requests are a lot more popular now as well. The demand for the resin is increasing by the year. We like to consider this to be a recycling option for a driveway, path or patio. No skips required to remove the existing.

Large commercial installations can offer an effective option saving on the mess and disruption which can be caused by the more common options such as block paving. Why? Because with the resin bonded resurfacing we at Drive-Cote offer, works can be completed in a day and can be driven on the same day. We will hasten to add not in all cases as size does have a bearing. In addition the resin bonded resurfacing needs to be laid on a dry surface to ensure maximum efficacy. This also means we are quite often at the mercy of the weather.

Large projects completed by commercial companies can boast the benefits of resin bonded resurfacing

The life span for a Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drive for example can vary from 5 to 15 years. In most cases longer than this. The choice of specialist aggregates used and the general use of the surface can all have a bearing. As an example the same choice of aggregate for a driveway will have a more extensive durability than an installation used for a car park for instance. The surface to which the aggregate is applied will also have a bearing. And remember a resin drive can offer a virtually weed free anti slip option.

What should be important to remember is the fact that our Drive-Cote Ltd resurfacing stems from road use. Therefore for residential areas such as Clay Cross Ravenshead resin drives paths or patios are in excess of the requirements for general use.

resin drive discounts are they value for money

Well there’s a question to ask! resin drive discounts are they value for money – It is the same with most offers you have to decide if they are genuine or value for money.

Perhaps when considering resin drive discounts are they value for money, is to first as why?

Is it defective stock?

Is it excess stock?

Is is a new product?

Is it a previous order made and then cancelled?

There are always opportunities and good quality discounts and offers out there, but as with most things you have to assess the facts and decide from there.

Are they a local company?

Has anyone you know used this company?

Are they a member of an approved contractor scheme? – Now there is one to ask. We have recently seen an approved contractor scheme being discussed – ” I believe ‘Approved Installer/Assured’ schemes to be commercial suicide depending on the quality of the Area” says one contributor to a discussion – not on resin drives though.

One of the key things to remember is to always ask for more information. In these tough times, a business may only want to just have enough business to keep him, his staff and his business continuing. Larger concerns may have larger ambitions so

” resin drive discounts are they value for money” can be a business specific offer and a valuable one so don’t dismiss it !

However also consider that not all offers are marketed heavily on line.

The driveway, building, gardening and landscaping business can be a tough industry and new products are always out there so to see discounts is not unusual.

We as a business do not tend to have discounts such as this, as all our works are based on individual needs to the customer and circumstances and area. We would be foolish to offer a firm price discounted or otherwise apart from a very basic indication when we first speak to clients.

Our resin drive business has been in force for over 12 years, and we pride ourselves on bespoke installations. Whether it is concrete, tarmac or imprinted concrete, whether it is a path or patio our resin has the potential to be used whether it is for a resin bonded gravel drive or resin bonded aggregate path. Virtually maintenance and weed free we can offer an anti slip resurfacing option. An invaluable option for the winter months.

Mansfield, Chesterfield, Tibshelf, Alfreton, Ilkeston, Sutton in Ashfield, Ripley, Nottingham, we can work within a 60 mile radius of Mansfield.

Nottingham resin bonded aggregate resurfacing

Local University quote recently completed has necessitated a return visit to check on the necessary works that have been completed by the local builder. We need to do this to ensure that the surface is correct for our Nottingham resin bonded aggregate resurfacing.

The building company have laid a concrete slab and in addition have completed some remedial works for this Nottingham University medical school. The curing process of the concrete has been completed so they are eager for the resin bonded aggregate resurfacing works to be completed.

We intend to go out this week to establish a completion date for this Nottingham resin bonded aggregate resurfacing. However, as with all of our works, we are heavily dependent on “accommodating weather”!

With over 12 years experience we have the knowledge to ensure that the optimum conditions are utilised. The installation of this Nottingham resin bonded aggregate resurfacing works will add an anti slip protective and durable surface.

We recently went to quote a Woodthorpe customer for a Nottingham resin bonded aggregate resurfacing. He has an extremely steep driveway, in fact it is very difficult to walk up as it is and the frost has not arrived yet! This surface is a block paved area, which we cannot resurface. The steepness of the slope causes such a problem and the fact that the block paved area had sunk has made this client decide to address the problem. The client is having concrete installed and a split level area established in order to help compensate for this slope.

We have provided the client with a cost per sqm as an approximate so that they can gauge an approximate cost for the Nottingham resin bonded aggregate resurfacing.

We have asked this customer to let us know how he goes on, even if he does not decide to resurface with our resin bonded stone.

Can we install resin bonded gravel works for you

We have had an enquiry for resin bonded gravel works from Cumbria this week. Unfortunately too far really to offer a fair price. Chesterfield, Mansfield, Nottingham, Sheffield, Derby are more local to us for resin bonded gravel works.

We had quite a good chat with this customer. They had existing concrete but over the years the freeze thaw process had damaged the concrete. They had considered having the surface removed and started looking at the traditional methods. These being block paving, imprinted concrete, or just plain concrete. But as we regularly say, why have something removed if it is structurally sound? This applies to tarmac, imprinted concrete and concrete.

This client had no issues with drainage. The fall of the area was fine, it just didn’t look very nice and that is why they were considering resin bonded gravel works.

resin bonded gravel works

We find a lot of clients are now not just looking at drives and paths as separate entities but as part of the overall garden design. This particular client had completed a lot of works on their property and garden and wanted to incorporate the driveway, paths and patios into it. Don’t forget maintenance free options like resin bonded gravel works for example are becoming increasingly popular with households. People have less time available with busy working lives.

Being an independent company we are not in a position to suggest alternative companies who work with the resin bonded gravel works. In addition a lot of companies work with resin bound and this is not what we work with for existing surfaces. Impermeability is key to prevent weeds. The need for planning permission is not necessary.

We always recommend customers to look round where they live – supermarkets have tree pits installed using resin, walkways and pedestrian areas have resin resurfacing. The highways, as this is where the completion of resin bonded gravel works on residential started .

Commercial installers do not always work with residential clients but as they say “they know a man who can” or at least may be they do. So look round where you are and I am sure you will find some fine examples of resin bonded gravel works near you.

resin bonded gravel Tollerton and Ratcliffe on Trent

resin bonded gravel Tollerton Nottingham, Derby, Sheffield, Leicester we can show you a resin bonded gravel installation near you.

What a busy week ahead for quotes which includes a resin bonded gravel Tollerton . We have already been to Staffordshire which is on the edge of our working area, but well within the capabilities of Drive-Cote Ltd installers.

In order for the lads and staff at Mansfield based Drive-Cote Ltd to work efficiently we need good quality reliable products and suppliers. And that is something we at Drive-Cote Ltd have established with our long standing suppliers.

We have been working with our particular supplier of resin, who exports all over the world, for quite a time now. The quality of the resin is outstanding. They never fail to deliver as, when, how and what as required. This enables us to offer a quality service as previously completed in the Tollerton, Radcliffe on Trent and Gamston areas. So if you want to seen an example of our resin bonded gravel Tollerton works, then drop us a line.

resin bonded gravel Tollerton

We have received an enquiry this week with regard to a resin bonded gravel Tollerton previously completed. Nothing wrong with the surface, apart from the fact that the builder they employed damaged the driveway itself (as we regularly say our resin because it is only 5mm deep, does not support vehicles it uses the existing base to support the weight, so, if that goes so does our resin, hence not applying it to all surfaces).

The builder had offered to reinstall the surface and the client was looking at resurfacing as well. Now our product is primarily designed to work on existing concrete, tarmac and imprinted concrete surfaces. This can mean when a new concrete, tarmac or imprinted concrete surface is laid then the cost of the resin is added, it can work out expensive. The enquiry at this stage did not progress further.

That was some 2 years ago and the client enquiring was the new owner to the property. We have now received a call asking for us to chip away some of the surface as it is too high? The damproof level is affected by our resin and that it is causing damp.

As we regularly say we using existing surfaces and that our product does not affect exisiting levels, so this cannot be the case with this recent call. We have been asked to chip away at it. We have tried to contact the customer, but have not achieved that yet!

Also new enquiry through from Radcliffe on Trent not far from resin bonded gravel Tollerton jobs we have completed , so will be getting back to him.

We seem to be getting a lot of enquiries with regard to imprinted concrete and resurfacing due to the slippy aspect so will be out to see those as well. Perhaps this time of year everyone starts to look towards Winter! However as pointed out on this site it is generally the sealer which is slippy

Concrete, tarmac, imprinted concrete- driveway, paths and patios

Why not extend the life of what you have. Don’t replace – it re use it. Recycle your driveway, path or patio With anti slip resin bonded gravel you can stay safe underfoot and have a virtually weed free and maintenance free surface.

Resin bonded path, resin bonded patio, resin bonded driveway – the choice of finishes are varied.

Always nice to hear from a local job. Especially one completed over 10 years ago. An opportunity to complete a resin driveway revisted is always an opportunity to inspect our works. More so when they are ringing and saying how impressed and pleased they are with the durability of our resin bonded aggregate. This revitalises and affirms the benefits and quality of our resin driveway installations.

We received the call from the customer and our lads had the opportunity to revisit an old resin bonded driveway we had completed over ten years ago. The call was to ask if we could touch up a couple of ten pence size areas that had flaked off over the winter. The customer admitted that over zealous use of a shovel during the heavy snow falls had taken it’s toll and this was the reason for Drive-Cote Ltd to complete a resin driveway revisited

The resin bonded stone driveway in Kirkby in Ashfield had been finished in 1-3 pigmented venetian red with a buff Chinese bauxite border. On first inspection this resin bonded gravel surface was still in a remarkable condition even after 10 years usage. After a 15 minute repair this resin driveway revisited was back in A1 condition and based on the last 10 years, another 10 years of good service would not be an issue!

Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire

Been to see a potential client in Sutton in Ashfield who had a concrete pathway enclosed between the side elevation of brickwork to property. Over the years there was a developing problem of water puddling and standing against the brickwork. Not a good thing with all this wet weather we have incurred over the past few years. It was causing damp penetration so we suggested we insert a length of eco drainage to the affected area to cure this problem. We can then resurface the pathway in resin bonded aggregate to seal the area and depending on the colour chosen – brighten quite a dark passageway up. This would also help to eliminate the moss and algae potential
