How the years have changed. From a Snowmagedden to  a BBC weather  report for January 2022 which says January 2022 was the sunniest since 1959.

How things change!

Resin bonded stone historically was a fair weather option.  Usually associated with Spring and Summer.  However look at January last year and you would have to say that is not so! Unless they have moved January to another Season?

+5 ° to  +35°  is one of the indicators we do not work outside of.

Resin  is a two part product and in order for the mixing process to work correctly temperature is  key to the process.

We have over the past few years noticed an increase in the demand for resurfacing  particularly of imprinted concrete. 

Why ?

Drive-Cote Ltd believes it is relative to the options available for sealing and protecting the imprinted concrete.  Currently  the seals available serve to protect the imprinted concrete, but at the same time do not offer adequate anti slip properties, and certainly not to the degree that an anti slip resin drive can.  In fact the resin drive offers a degree of purchase and anti slip quality that seals cannot.  The resin bonded resurfacing allows the special granular aggregate to sit slightly proud of the resin offering the best anti slip properties.

Weather changes affected by global warming can be contributory factors to deterioration in the road surfaces as well.  Creating a need for  some of us to consider driveway pothole resurfacing.

What is a pothole and how do they form? 

“A pothole is a large, deep hole in the road. They are formed when roads freeze and thaw repeatedly. The changes in temperature causes damage to the surface. Layers of the road become unstuck or the surface breaks. As traffic travels over these weakened areas holes appear. 

Potholes can appear at any time of year but are more frequent during late winter and early spring”. 

Our driveways paths and patios can be subject to similar deterioration.  Tarmac and concrete are strong substrates but may need a little tlc over the years.  Sometimes the surface may have been physically marked and damaged (oil spills and skip damage for example) sometimes they may be beyond repair and require a brand new surface.

Our resin bonded surface (bonded not bound) cannot always work with all issues, however one of the main benefits of our resin is the ability to resurface an existing surface and to not affect the existing level.

Frost damage, heave and shelling all allow the elements to attack the surface but as long as the structure is sound this will only be surface damage to start with.  However left to deteriorate without protection this could eventually be irreparable.

Our resin is a polyurethane based product if you require some technical trivia please see . This website talks about the advantages and properties.  The site talks about the abrasion and impact resistance for example.  This is an aspect that is key and relevant to the resin and the aggregates to be used. Crushing, impact and gravity and water absorption being relevant.

We have been completing resin bonded stone resurfacing works for nearly 20 years.  We first started to record images and historical resin bonded stone works on our website information in 2012.  However our records go further back thank this.

Our original resin bonded stone works were completed with an Epoxy product but over the years and with development in technology we moved on to polyurethane which is a much improved resin.

Now is the time to beat the slippy and icy surfaces with a winterproof resin bonded stone ant slip surface.

Resin bound surfacing  encapsulates the stone and is trowelled on to surfaces. This means the surface is not as anti slip as a winterproof resin bonded stone area.  The uniqueness of a resin bonded surface is that the shape and size of the aggregate and the fact that it sits proud of the resin whilst also being partly embedded in resin for adhesion.

                               Road use is where the resin bonded stone started –  providing anti skid properties but at the same time offering a durable and protective  surface. What makes resin bonded resurfacing anti slip – more irregularities expressed in the aggregate shape which in turn creates more friction- its as simple as this.  The smoother the surface the more slippy the surface.
