anti slip red resin bonded path installation

This client wanted to reuse the existing surface already in place.  This is exactly what our anti slip red resin bonded path installation provided.  No mess, no disruption and completed in a day.

You can see from the images that this anti slip red resin bonded path installation needed  to provide a more aggressive finish for this client.  The actual concrete already in place was fine structurally but had a slippy element to it.  The gradient was quite apparent and this had caused the owners a little issue so our resin bonded aggregate solved the problem.

It has been a busy time recently.  Enquiries coming in from all parts of the Country.

The anti slip properties provided by Drive-Cote Ltd installations stem from anti skid surfacing.

One of the current road surfacing materials is a hand applied, resin based road surfacing material provided by a company called  Adbruf which provides  high skid resistance. High friction (or anti-skid) properties are achieved and maintained throughout the service life of Coldgrip by the use of high PSV calcined bauxite aggregates giving a skid resistance value (SRV) of 70 minimum. By providing high friction anti-skid contact with vehicle tyres, braking is achieved more effectively, reducing the risk of skidding and loss of control of the vehicle.

Coldgrip is proven in use on the most highly trafficked roads such as motorway slip roads, trunk roads and major traffic intersections.

resin bonded gravel weed free option available

resin bonded gravel weed free option available

We regularly get asked if  there is a resin bonded gravel weed free option available.  The simple answer is no.  However resin bonded gravel  is a virtually weed free option as opposed to resin bound gravel which is not.

There is a plethora of information on the world wide web and what we say is just read up as much as you can on the forums for example.  Or alternatively call the companies you find – a good company will take the time to talk and explain

What you should note is that resin bonded gravel,  is as good as it gets for a weed free option.

Remember weeds can grow up (porous surfaces allow water to drain through) and they can also be airborne seeds which germinate on the surface.

A valuable resource for clients and businesses alike  is the paving expert  they have a mine of  information on all potential works from tarmac through to concrete, imprinted concrete and  block paving – you name it they have it.  Below is an extract from their site.

Full details of other products from  including high-strength mortars, screeds and specialist coatings are available from their website.
As described on the Introduction to Resin Bound Systems page, there are two principal methods of applying a resin-bound surfacing to any pavement: Trowelled and Scatter Coat (also known as “Surface Dressing”). The Scatter Coat method, which includes the RonaDeck Resin Bonded Surfacing system, is probably the more popular, as it offers a number of advantages:

  • Easier to apply – no need for highly trained operatives
  • Cheaper – because the expensive resin is used only at the base
  • Fast – surface can be trafficked in as little as two hours
  • Versatile – the resin can be applied to awkward areas, such as steps
  • Lightweight – the finished surfacing can be as little as 4-6mm thick

Uses & Applications:

Resin Bonded Surfacing is eminently suitable for a wide range of surfacing projects where an attractive, gravel-like, natural-looking surface, with excellent anti-slip properties is required. Although it is proving to be a popular choice for driveways and patios, it is also widely used in the commercial sector for use on car parks, footpaths and cycleways, shopping malls and leisure facilities, schools and play areas, and is a market leader for use on steps, ramps, balconies, footbridges and other areas that require a simple, low-weight surface with a high level of slip resistance. Its use is not limited to outdoor applications, though – it is equally suitable for indoor applications, such as retail areas looking for a more natural flooring, for atria, corridors, factory floors, stairwells, etc.”

Whether it is for a driveway, path or patio preparation is key.  This includes investigating all options.  Remember nothing is perfect.  It may be cost –  it may be labour – it may be maintenance – it may even be all three!    Remember  our anti slip surfacing provides  a virtually resin bonded gravel weed free option.

Ravenshead resin bonded gravel driveway enquiry

Ravenshead resin bonded gravel driveway enquiry

Some months ago we had an enquiry from an interested customer.  This Ravenshead resin bonded gravel driveway enquiry did not result in having works completed.  Why?  Because the damage to this clients driveway was far too extensive to be resurfaced.  Tree roots had invaded the existing tarmac and literally uprooted the driveway.

Not quite as bad as this fortunately  However as this Ravenshead resin bonded gravel driveway enquiry was a business owner,  he has asked us to quote for one of his business addresses.

The Site

Sutton in Ashfield

The Purpose

To resurface an existing surface

 The Reason

To provide an anti slip surface which does not affect the existing levels and can be done in a day.

This Ravenshead resin bonded gravel driveway enquiry customer needs to be able to have the works completed as soon as possible.  The area to be resurfaced is an access to a home and therefore needs to be “out of action” so to speak for as little time as possible.  This  is one of the benefits of a resin bonded aggregate surface.  Especially at this time of year.

The actual surface to be covered is a metal surface and is a graduated ramp.  Checquer  plate markings are evident but there is a propensity to slippiness in icy  weather and  general wear has created a more slippy effect.  Hence looking towards having a an anti slip surfacing product on the top.

Concrete path area to be included as this surface is quite badly spalled.

The resin bound option would not be suitable in this case. Resin bound paving and surfacing encapsulates the stone, almost like a varnish making it less aggressive than resin bonded.  In addition it should be applied on a deeper level, resulting in potentially affecting existing  levels.

We completed ramp works for a project a little further affield some time ago and this Ravenshead resin bonded gravel driveway enquiry customer had seen some details of this on our website.

Belper resin bonded driveway garden project

August 17th, 2014

Belper resin bonded driveway garden project

A recent enquiry we have had via another quote has required us to potentially incorporate a design area.

This project has a large hardcore  area and when we see areas like this we try and add detail.  Our gardens , driveways and paths are valuable areas.  In addition as we highlighted to this Belper resin bonded driveway garden project owner, permeability and the effects on the area is always a consideration.  Our resin bonded aggregate and stone works are designed to work with existing surfaces like concrete, tarmac and imprinted concrete (slabs for foot traffic) so we do not install regardless.

As basically having a creative side to our business ( a recent walling project has incorporated sectional walling and artificial grass)

we like to offer choice and  this is  an example so  we have proffered a few ideas to this client.

The idea behind the Belper resin bonded driveway garden project was that they need to  improve the existing surfaces and their first thought was to hard surface all areas.  In addition to this,  improve the existing hard surfaces.

We have come up with a few ideas for this client and have sketched a plan and provided a couple of options for this  Belper resin bonded driveway garden project.  We could look towards repairing the tarmac driveway and concrete paths. We can incorporate the slabs on the path as they are extremely well bed down and only foot traffic is on this areas.

The additional hardcore area could be worked with as follows

  1. Excavate and tarmac fitting a new manhole – simple
  2. Stone and wood chip areas  (put simplistically –  but the actual  choice of aggregates for an area such as this is wide ranging). In addition use a combination of edgings to add detail.

We have provided a quick sketch for the client, just to give them some idea.  The cost for the above options does differ.

img042

Option 1 would be less cost effective but would provide solid vehicle suitability

Option 2 would be much more cost effective but also offer a more decorative “garden” orientated option.

There is no right or wrong just down to choice. A choice this Belper resin bonded driveway garden project owner will be making over the next few days.

We are resin bonded and resin bound specialists for Belper, Mansfield, Ilkeston, Arnold, Sherwood, Chesterfield, Stonebroom, Morton, Ripley and Alfreton  which can proivde  virtually weed and  maintenance free and anti slip free options.

The aggregates we use are stocked at all times by our suppliers providing us with a continuity and confidence with the materials used.

This Nottingham Drive-Cote Ltd resin bonded works resurfacing  was completed in a day!  Not every installer can say that!

Why were we able to complete in a day?  The surface for our  Nottingham Drive-Cote Ltd resin bonded works resurface was in excellent condition being imprinted concrete no real prep work was required.

Why did we resurface?

This client had been in touch and had some major issues with the imprinted concrete.  If you look at these images you can

see the shine on the surface.  That was the problem. Our anti slip or slip resistant surface solves this issue. The client wanted a preventative measure. The gradient on this drive was such that it caused a lot of issues in wet weather with regard to slipperiness.

When we see a surface such as this we are very cautious of resurfacing a perfectly good,  if not excellent surface.  This imprinted concrete installer should have highlighted to the client the potential issues with regard to the gradient, the seal required and the potential slip issue.  With this client,  before completing works,  we did reinforce the fact that they would be covering an attractive and perfectly good surface.  However such were the issues with access (in addition the adjoining  driveway  had imprinted concrete), that they just wanted it making safe and maintenance free. That’s it completed in a day and with the added benefit of our Nottingham Drive-Cote Ltd resin bonded works not affecting existing levels.

quality resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product

August 4th, 2014

quality resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product

We have had the opportunity to try a different quality resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product than our usual.

We have to say at this stage that our existing supplier has been an exemplorary supplier.  In all our years of experience of the different sorts of resin,  we have only ever had one issue with the product from this supplier and that was quickly rectified.

There are so many types of resin out there – polyurethane being our weapon of choice so to speak.  As a  business we always have the the dilema to try from different suppliers.  If it is not broke don’t fix it but you always ask

  • Could their quality resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product be  more effective?

  • Could their quality  resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product be more available?

  • Could their quality  resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product  be less costly?

When we write about things like this it is not to be derisive of other companies and /or products.  It is to show the reason we chose the suppliers we do.

Back to this alternative company.  They have been chasing us for some time- they constantly  tell us their quality resin bonded  resin bound driveway resurfacing product will surpass our current.  They also highlight the fact that theirs is more cost effective.

After much deliberation we decided to trial it.  The area we chose was a mix of concrete and tarmac to give us a good feel to this companies statement –  a quality resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product.  We can only say that it did not go to plan.  Why?

The weather?  No

The surfaces? No

To quote a  phrase our current quality resin bonded resin bound driveway resurfacing product “does exactly what it says on the tin”.

How wrong was the application!  It proved to be a total disaster (which is why we trialled it on a small recoverable area).  We will say as well,  that this alternative company did highlight that with the current high temperatures that we perhaps should leave it until a cooler time.  This is not a statement we want to hear.  Already the dictates of the resin mean the wet weather and colder temperatures affect the efficacy.  To be told it may be too hot is not very condusive to our restrictive  working time within the year.

Suffice it to say their local rep is making a return visit and we can discuss our findings.

Whether it is a path patio or driveway we can help.  Mansfield, Nottingham, Ripley, Heanor, Alfreton.  Your driveway path or patio can be part of your garden and create kerb appeal.

resin bonded paving works Newthorpe

July 27th, 2014

resin bonded paving works Newthorpe

resin bonded paving works Newthorpe –  two lots on the same property on the go this week.  This weather is certainly creating a lot of interest!  The resin bonded paving works Newthorpe are for 2 patio areas and a front path.

We always try and ask our customers why they want the resurfacing.

Is it because the exisiting is slippy?

Is is because it is unsightly?

Is it because you want to incorporate more of your hardstanding areas of concrete and tarmac?

Do you want to extend and make the areas look uniform?

There is no uniform answer.  Very often  circumstances similar to the resin bonded paving works Newthorpe being that  it is a good solid surface just in need  of protecting to ensure longevity and to make it a more attractive area.  Sometimes it may be that the surface is deteriorating and it needs protecting. Sometimes it may be a shady area and moss and weeds create a problem.  This is where our company Drive-Cote Ltd can help. Being based in Mansfield in the East Midlands we can access four counties Leicesteshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Whether it is a driveway path or patio, whether it is tarmac, concrete or imprinted concrete we can resurface.

resin bonded paving works Newthorpe before resin bonded paving works Newthorpe patio before resin bonded paving works Newthorpe patio after resin bonded paving works Newthorpe path by Drive-Cote Ltd

One of the surfaces we have been asked to work with is a resin bound surface!  The customer had this installed over 5 years ago. It has blown in areas, it has some cracks and it has lost all its colour and as it is a permeable surface it is suffering with moss.  As we always say if water can get in the weeds can.

The resin bound surfacing encapsulates the surface of the stone, it gives it a clear glossy type finish.  However, every time a car wheel goes over it (and we all tend to park in the same place and have the same run on to our driveway) it wears.  Therefore it requires maintenance by way of a seal.  Very much like imprinted concrete.  This is not wrong however –  this means it requires maintenance with regard to this and the when the resin bonded paving works Newthorpe are completed this will not be necessary.  In addition the coating for resin bound stone is  like sealing imprinted concrete, it can make it very slippy. Resin bonded paving works are more aggressive (if that is the right word) and therefore key in providing an anti slip option.  In addition this also virtually eliminates weeds. If you have a slippy surface and do not want to go down the route of a complete resurfacing then you can locate lots of helpful information on the internet to guide you

resin bonded stone expert

what makes a resin bonded stone expert ?

Difficult question to answer without appearing to be derisive of other companies.

We have been completing resin bonded stone works for over 12 years.  Does this make us a resin bonded stone expert?  Who is to say.  What we can say is

  • We will provide you with a fair and competitive price.
  • We will provide you with a free quotation.
  • We will only work with a surface that is suitable.
  • We do not have hard sell services.

We have recently completed a nice job in Marehay Ripley and this client has enlisted our services twice!  How’s that for  qualifying as a resin bonded expert.  First we did a patio area (concrete) and then were asked to return to complete the steps and paths!

In this current climate  and the wonders of the internet we are finding that people are wanting to reuse the things they already have.  I think a common term is “upcycle”  and we think this is a fitting name. We upcycle existing surfaces such as concrete, imprinted concrete and tarmac.  Whether it is a path or patio.  In fact we are currently completing a walling project and will be upcycling  the wooden boxes!(not with resin though)

There are companies popping up all over the place. So be aware of new companies purporting to have completed resin works.  Not all images are their own!  If we say we have completed a job and the images are showing as completed works on our website  then we will have the original of the image!

Being a Mansfield company we pride ourselves on providing a local service to local people.  Chesterfield, Ripley, Eastwood, Woodborough, Papplewick, Bulwell, Stonebroom, Swanwick, Loscoe, Heanor all within easy reachof our base in the East Midlands.

Don’t forget to ask the questions about resin bonded and resin bound – the differences and what difference the type of application will make to the surface it is being applied to.

Resin driveway providing preventative measure

July 9th, 2014

resin driveway providing preventative measure

We have been asked to install a resin driveway for a local resident due to recent situations with their driveway.

A resin driveway providing preventative measure is what they are looking for as the imprinted concrete in place is unsafe in their opinion.

One of the incidents that has occurred on our clients driveway has resulted in the Postman  refusingh to walk up the drive.  The Post Office  have instructed our client  that due to the slipperiness of the surface and the slope,  their delivery man has refused to continue to walk on it and the Post Office  support him in his refusal.   Evidently he has already slipped on it  twice and is not prepared to chance it again.  This is not a first for us with regard to providing  an anti slip resin driveway providing preventative measure.

In cases such as this it is a shame,  to a great extent,  because there is nothing wrong with the surface they have down,  structurally.  However  the installation company have sealed the surface with anti slip sealant, but  the efficacy is not adequate.

Resin driveway providing preventative measure

This particular client has waited  but his existing surface of  over 3 years has beaten him.  He feels he now needs to sort this matter hence the resin driveway providing preventative measure.

We have offered to resurface a pathway type section.  The driveway has a border detail which we could work with.  Either resurfacing this area with the resin bonded stone or aligning a path area for people to walk up.  However our client is adamant that he wants the whole area covering.

When we price up for all our works we try and offer an honest service.  Our resin bonded aggregate was born of a requirement to resurface existing as a result of damage, age marks and stains.  Or even to incorporate new and old areas.  Our resin bonded stone provides a recycling service not a replacement.

Feel free to browse our site for information and examples of our work.  Feel free to contact us via our online form, or just give us a call.

Don’t forget we recycle existing surfaces such as tarmac and concrete.  Providing a weed free alternative to the usual options.

resin gravel surfaces providing tarmac protection

July 4th, 2014

resin gravel surfaces

What do you have at present? Concrete? tarmac? imprinted concrete? slabs? block paving?  All the usual suspects so to speak! perhaps you need to be looking at alternatives to the norm and if so why not take a look at resin gravel surfaces?

  • Can be completed in a day

  • Anti slip

  • Seamless option

  • Virtually maintenance free as it is resistant to algae weeds and moss.

  • Uses natural stone from local quarries

  • No need to remove the existing and does not affect current levels

Drive-Cote Ltd have been installing resin bonded aggregate, resin bound paving and tree pits for over 12 years.  During this time we have seen regular reports about the tarmac and pothole problem and it seems to be getting worse year on year.  Only this week in the Mansfield Chad there is a report of £2.7 million handout to fix pothole-riddled roads.

According to the report there are more than 50,000 potholes!  Being caused by” damage from floods and extreme weather over the past year”.  We know for a fact it is longer that a year.  it also goes on to say “potholes damage cars, motorbikes and cycles which in turn cost money to repair” This is what can happen to your driveway path and patio.  Tarmac,  imprinted concrete and concrete are impermeable surfaces but the section or surface open to the elements becomes subject to wear and tear and damage.

Resin gravel surfaces have been installed on the roadways for a number or years  but for anti skid purposes.  However, the resin gravel surface has an impermeable  layer which when applied to concrete, tarmac and imprinted concrete provides a durable and protective surface. It has no real penetration levels making it even more tougher than concrete and tarmac.  Having said that solid monolithic surfaces need to be in place before installation of any resin gravel surfaces.
