Resin Bonded Driveway Resurfacing  Mansfield and Blidworth

Couple of quotes to visit this week.  All quite local at present.  Kirkby in Ashfield  being one of them.  We can always give them an address to view as we completed a resin patio area  some months ago quite local to them.  When it comes to paths and patios they can now be an attractive part of the garden and outside space with resin bonded resurfacing.

Resin Bonded Driveway Resurfacing Mansfield and BlidworthJobs on the go this week resin bonded driveway resurfacing Mansfield and Blidworth.

The Blidworth job is on the agenda for this week.  This is one where we completed some concrete remedial works, which have now had the opportunity to cure ( a necessary part so that the resin bonded paving and the alkali’s from the concrete do not react).  This customer also came to us as a result of seeing a previous job in Blidworth

Southwell Road Mansfield  quote for resin bonded gravel  we completed a few weeks ago we didn’t get.  The client has decided to go with block paving, but as they say you can’t win them all.   However he sent a very kind email.

Hi Simon, Further to your quote submitted on the 30th April, I write to confirm that we have finally decided to proceed with a block paving option. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the manner in which you handled and dealt with my inquiry. Regards Don

Shame about that one but a very nice refusal!  Called out to re quote at South Nomanton. This one is to resurface a concrete and tarmac section.  A mix of two surfaces has driven this client to distraction.  So our product – resin bonded resurfacing –  will be a good option to provide  uniformity.  A recent garden renovation has taken place so if they chose to take up our service then everything will be bought together.  They had a quote from us some 18 months ago, but have wanted to complete the garden project first.  Fingers crossed.

One of the benefits of resin is the attractive but durable aspect.  The existing surfaces used mean that the basic structure and support provide by good quality and solid substrates  – concrete, tarmac and imprinted concrete  – actually remain in place but provide the base for our resin.

Mansfield resin bonded aggregate

What a busy week .   Quotes and drives  sorted.  Concrete section completed on Mansfield garden project.  Thanks to the weather as it has really been on our side.

Nottingham resin bonded aggregate  job completed !

Mansfield resin bonded aggregate for local family completed.  Perhaps the new “Spinelock Home”  site will be a potential for our resin?

In this day and age it is all about saving the planet and if innovative  and revolutionary ideas such as this are the way forward then Mansfield is certainly going to hit the spot if the report in the Mansfield Chad  is true.   I did notice though a comment on the site

“What a load of old cobblers!  If I was paying £159 000 for a 3 bedroom house,   I’d want bricks and mortar. How would the building societies look upon this type  of ‘construction’, not to mention the insurers? Anyway, what’s this ‘housing shortage’ everyone’s going on about, all the building sites in the area are semi-dormant because there’s no demand”.

However back to our Mansfield clients!

This concrete  and painted patio was in a sorry state.

A friend of theirs had our resin bonded aggregate and recommended Drive-Cote Ltd and our resin                                            Concrete ready for resin bonded aggregate mansfield painted concrete before resin bonded aggregate Mansfield resin bonded aggregate Mansfield resin bonded aggregate path mansfield resin bonded aggregate by Drive-Cote Ltd resin bonded aggregate path in Mansfield

Very little preparation work required for this client.   But they wanted to reap the benefits of our anti slip surfacing.  One of the major benefits of our product is the use of  an existing surface as a base an option not available for imprinted concrete or block paving.  The size of this job was nice and manageable  (in fact half a day was all that was need to lay the resin).  Our client was able to go out in the morning leaving a painted concrete surface, only to return home after dinner, to an  attractive, durable, protective surface.  Concrete  is such a durable product and whilst not always an attractive surface, it is a very durable and solid product.  Imprinted concrete and block paving both need maintenance, but not our resin bonded aggregate!  Driveways paths and patios need to be part of our outside space and your garden,   and using an attractive resurfacing option you can enhance  your outside area!

resin bonded paving Nottingham

This week we have been called upon to sort out a red painted concrete driveway and front path for resurfacing  with our resin bonded paving at Nottingham.

The customer had previously painted the surface with a masonry paint.    The actual surface was fairly new but the client was not happy with the installation.  The new concrete driveway was just over a year old but the surface was constantly dusting off and due to his unhappiness and the frost spalling damage he wanted to cover it up.  In our opinion the concrete mix could have been too weak and it did look like a weak mix.  The client because of the dusting had tried to seal it with the paint, but he became increasingly  unhappy with it .

before Nottingham resin bonded paving drive-cote preparing to install resin bonded paving Nottingham nottingham resin bonded paving resin bonded paving by Drive-Cote Ltd

Our client had called the installers back several times but they were adamant the surface was fine.  There are various factors  that could have contributed to the condition. As we said possibly  a weak mix,   or there is the possibility that  it could  just be a defective mix  or it could even improve with time –  but this was client was just not happy.  In fact the shutter boards were still in place!

A simple preparation job was all that was required.  Our specialist filler is designed to not react with the resin bonded paving ( as some standard fillers do) and that was all that was required.  Completed – a resin drive is installed –  all within a day.  What a difference this has made!

After the lads had completed the work, I called round to inspect and our client was over the moon with the improved look.  Now , no more dust and a surface that will remain durable and one which will protect from any further deterioration.  No more freeze thaw/frost effect.

An additional  Nottingham resin bonded paving one to complete.  This one has a slate infill detail.  Prior to application there was  pea gravel in some areas, but this has now been replaced  with the slate and it  really tidies up the area.   Our client  removed  pea gravel and we installed the  slate infill after completion of resin bonded paving area.  This area is currently used for drainage purposes and with the infill  of slate this will add a more attractive aspect than standard gravel but continue to offer  drainage in this  area.   This concrete drive, rear patio and front slabbed path all resurfaced.   Quite a mix but now ensuring uniformity  for this property.

The benefits of a resin drive far outweigh those of a block paved or imprinted concrete driveway – more so if the existing surface is to be removed when it is not necessary!  If it’s not broke don’t fix it.  Resin bonded paving for drives, paths and patios provides a surface which is

Anti slip

Maintenance Free

Weed free

We have been installing resin bonded drives on tarmac, concrete and imprinted concrete  for the Nottingham, Mansfield, Sutton in Ashfield, Kirby in Ashfield, Long Eaton and  Sandiacre areas for over 12 years.  Call the experts, we can do in a day what other driveway companies take a week to do!  Remember though there is a difference between resin bonded and resin bound!

driveway  path and  patio resin bonded gravel

Quotes coming through from Chesterfield,  Clipstone , Sheffield and Bestwood Park!    All wanting our resin bonded gravel for their driveway path and patio.

Good job our suppliers are of a quality and  efficient beyond compare.  Always willing to help at short notice and really quality products supplied.  We have used our existing resin supplier  for a number of years  and they have never failed  to deliver on time or provide a less then superior product.  Advancements with resin bonded gravel  and resin bound paving  have really developed over the years and certainly with the increasing popularity of the product.  Recently used at the Olympic Park on a massive scale.  Mainly resin bound in these areas as for foot traffic.

Out to quote a job at Mapperley –  this one is a commercial  job. Currently they have a  concrete base but have been required to install ant- slip surfacing so they are looking for the resin bonded stone option.  Garden project really coming in to view now.  Rain last week so our large Matlock job was put on hold but  completed now.  The wet and damp is not a problem for the  preparation work but it is for the actual installation of the resin bonded resurfacing.  This coupled with the  Matlock being very rural a lot of areas can be very slow on drying out so we have to make sure the surface we are working with is perfect and optimum.

driveway path and patio resin bonded gravel is the way to go.

  • No mess
  • No disruption
  • Can be completed in a day
  • This applies to driveway path and patio!

driveway path and patio

More garden work on the go this week, that is the benefit of a good garden project it can sustain you not just financially but emotionally

Out to re look at the Blidworth and and Mansfield driveway  concrete jobs waiting for the final finish of resin bonded stone.  Will take some pictures to update on that.

Went out to view a drive at Calverton. Unfortunately not suitable for our product.

It was 30 year old tarmac which had suffered the weight of a recovery vehicle during the past 20 years.  This utility vehicle  had caused the tarmac to sink  possibly because use  and structure on a residential is not necessarily  the same as a commercial or industrial type.

Drainage issues were also present –  the ruts were holding water.  The customer has enlisted the services of a builder to extend the driveway to the side so that his current vehicle could be maneuvered on his driveway.  The area where he lived was  very dense with traffic hence his wanting to increase the hard standing area on his driveway.

We tend to find that a lot of patio enquiries are relative to slabs and this is a perfect scenario to use resin bonded resurfacing or resin bound.  Foot traffic is always suitable for either product.  It is only the existing surface that dictates. We do regularly get asked if we can work with block paving drives but unfortunately that is not possible.

Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire, Leicesteershire or Lincolnshire call us now and see if we can help.

Matlock tarmac drive resurfaced with resin bonded aggregate

Matlock tarmac drive resurfaced with resin bonded aggregate

Matlock tarmac drive resurfaced in a day!

This exclusive historical property was over 400 years old and was set on a hillside in one of the most exclusive areas of Derbyshire. Our client wanted a finish sympathetic to the original stonework of the property and area.  The tarmac driveway entrance and front path was in need of a sympathetically yet purposeful overhaul.  The Matlock tarmac drive was heavily soiled and was very mossy.  Algae had damaged the tarmac and this  coupled with the area  not getting much sunlight due to be over shadowed by  overhanging trees.

Our first priority was to clean the surface. This unfortunately is a very labour intensive aspect and required the use of stiff brush and a few  hours of wire brushing and elbow grease. This was a necessary to remove the moss (preparation being key) prior to the application of resin bonded stone

The overhanging  trees meant the potential for slippiness and continued weed, moss and algae  growth if not protected,  was quite high.   Resin bound  surfacing would not be suitable for a number of reasons. This would include  the potential for seeds to be implanted  and moss to get a grip as it is a porous material.  Resin bonded aggregate is not.

Moss and algae whilst  potentially damaging  to the surface can also provide a slippy surface, which is where the anti slip surfacing comes into it’s own as resin bonded aggregate has highly  anti slip surfacing properties.

The application of the resin bonded stone to this driveway and path  was completed in a day.  How many other products can say that? No need to remove the existing.  Matlock tarmac drive resurfaced by Drive-Cote Ltd in a day

Our client rang the following day to say how impressed they were not just with the product but with our staff.  Pleasant and efficient.

Stocksbridge visit for a free resin bonded gravel quote

Stocksbridge visit for a free resin bonded gravel quote

Called out to visit a client  out at Stocksbridge hopefully calling  for a visit to an enquiry at Clay Cross  as well on the way back.

This client was obtaining 3 different quotes for resin bonded gravel and resin bound gravel.  This was for a tarmac drive,  path and patio.

The two other quotes had already been provided, but this client was a little concerned over the fact that ourselves and one of the other companies quoting , confirmed what we said on inspection but the third company differed.  We said on the existing surface it would not be possible to apply our product.

  • The  sub base had gone ( I am not sure where but it had definitely gone!)
  • The driveway was on a steep slope towards the property.
  • There were big dips in the tarmac all the levels were wrong.
  • Slabbed area of  path around the property was extremely  uneven and loose and had a back drop towards the property.

We explained that we would have to rip put the base and lay a brand new surface (as we work with resin bonded gravel) before we could apply the resin bonded aggregate.  Which for a brand new surface and total re lay is a bit of a contradiction as we work on the understanding if it’s not broke don’t fix it.  However some surfaces are broke as was this one!sub base damage

One of the other companies which confirmed what we said about not being able to work with the surface and said their process would be to rip out the existing.  They would then  install a base coat of tarmac for drainage and trowel on and lay  16 to 18 ml thick of resin bound stone   ( £97 per sqm).

Their works  are different  to our application and  they did say that  the resin bound stone would need cleaning and a moss inhibitor used.  This is because resin bound stone is encapsulated with the resin and trowelled on to give a porosity.  However with porosity  comes the potential for moss, weeds and  algae and for it to be slippy.

Because resin bonded stone is installed differently this results in there not being a  problem with moss ,weeds and algae and it is an anti slip product.

The third  driveway company said the surface was suitable and that they would install a 10mm overlay no problem.  In our opinion this would not be a realistic option just on the fact that the sub base was not solid.

If the substrate on your driveway path or patio is gone then it needs replacing!  Now the weather is with us don’t delay.  Now is the ideal time to get out in the garden and sort your driveway, path or patio problems! Don’t wait for the Winter, as the freeze thaw process can only damage your surface further. why not have an anti slip surface

resin bonded aggregate patio and path review

resin bonded aggregate patio and path review

Well done lads!  Gainsborough  Lincolnshire completed and on the same day the customer rang. They provided us with  an excellent resin bonded aggregate patio and path review.  They left the following:

“ Simon and Faith,  your men  have  just finished my Resin Bonded Aggregate  and  it looks fantastic!  They have done a cracking  job !  You have a good pair of  lads thanks  ever so much”  How’s that for a resin bonded aggregate patio and path review!

This client came as a result of seeing one of our driveways completed not far from his.   This  concrete patio area steps and paths needed minimal prep work.  However it has taken us a bit of a time to complete as the specialist filler we use even though it doesn’t need to be dry when used it does need opportunity to dry out.  We use this particular filler as it is non reactive to the Resin.

This area was required for his dogs and he wanted an area that was less porous than concrete . The surface was really quite basically sound just a few crack a bit  boring and unsightly really.   The curved step detail using bull nosed curved bricks is really complimentary to the resin bonded aggregate patio.  Now there is virutally no maintenance required and they have a beautiful anti slip surface.   A quick  brush and a mild disinfectant on a regular basis is all that is required.  This will keep the surface clean and maintain the colour.  The impermeability of the resin bonded aggregate  reinforces the suitability of this resurfacing option  as opposed to  resin bound paving .  It also eliminates weed growth.

The resin bonded aggregate path, patio or driveway allows the area to be an attractive part of the garden.  Derbyshire Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire we are within easy access of all these counties.

Whether it is a concrete or tarmac path, patio or driveway. Whether you are in Chesterfield, Shefffield, Matlock, Alfreton, Ilkeston, Derby, Nottingham, Shirebook or Mansfield we can resurface using our resin bonded stone.  Call us now for a free quote.

resin drive reviews and recommendations

Verbal recommendations very often go under valued as they are not written,  so in future I will try and record the compliments  for the lads.    Our clients as do many other small business customers  can really champion a local business.  Word of mouth and reviews and referrals are always good for business, and for the morale of staff  (and very often business owners!) It is a tough world out there.  Where we are based in the East Midlands  we have a lot of valued contacts.  They are not customers  they become friends as we try and offer a friendly approachable style.

I on many a regular walk,  walked past a particular driveway and every morning the owner walked down their block paved drive and located a display board on the pavement.  Advertising the services of their driveway installation company.  Every night they then returned to remove it ready for the next day.  On walking with Milo my English bull terrier, sadly no longer with us, I asked one day if it was their business.  To my surprise they said they were not the owners just extremely happy customers and not only had they returned to the block paving business for further work they had recommended the business to friends and family.  What a review for this company!  I would like to add it was our company Drive-Cote Ltd but it wasn’t.

Driveway companies whether it is tarmac, concrete, imprinted concrete  or block paving can get a bit of a reputation and it is nice to hear and see feedback of a positive nature.  But a really good and unbiasied  information site is www.pavingexpert.co.uk  Don’t foget we can resurface paving slabs as long as they are for foot traffic.

We at Drive-Cote Ltd pride ourselves on a friendly and approachable service. We are Mansfield based and within easy reach of the many villages within the East Midlands.  Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire Yorkshire all within easy reach.  Make your driveway, path or patio part of your garden.

block paving or resin bonded drive which is better.

block paving or resin bonded drive which is better

Driveways and Block paving  Is there a top and bottom to a block paver? What is a chamfer?

Found this conversation on the internet

“Getting the block paving laid tomorrow – standard concrete block paving blocks. Been offered to have them laid right way up – with a chamfer around the edge of each block.Upside down. No Chamfer. Tight joints. Told it looks better”

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/block-paving-laid-upside-down

“No chamfer = less space for moss maybe?”

Lots of opinions considering –  aesthetics, movements, perforations, aiding drainage, movement, edges and lips?

The question do you think there is a reason for them to be laid the right way up?resulted in

“If you get them laid upside down the arises will break off next harsh winter so that you’ll end up with chamfered corners anyway. As much as you might be surprised these things are usually like it for a reason”

Patterns  –  will it make a lot of difference to how they look when finished.

If they are standard paving blocks, eg Marshalls Keyblock or similar, then it is not possible to lay them with tight joints. They have little ridges on the sides to ensure even sized joints (approx 3mm). Block paving is designed to be “flexible” and the 3mm sand joint is there to allow movement. Does that mean if laid upside down  then  the installer doesn’t know what he is doing.

A lot seem to be being laid upside down it  seems to be the trend at the moment looks ok to me

They are Brett Omega blocks. I’ve checked the data sheet and use they do have little ridges to give a 3mm gap. So upside down they’ll still have the gap. Just not the chamfer. I’ll call Brett tomorrow to see what they say.

Spoke with the manufacturer. Played it safe and went right side up”

So to remind us of the question block paving or resin bonded drive which is better.  Well there is never a right or wrong but it is important to have the correct  surface for the correct purpose!

  • For a start a resin bonded drive should be laid on an an existing concrete (this includes imprinted concrete)  or tarmac surface.  Block paving cannot.
  • A block paving drive can be a permeable surface a resin drive is not.
  • Resin bonded drives are virtually maintenance free
  • Block paving needs regular maintenance
  • Resin bonded resurfacing can offer an anti slip and  weed free option with  a resin bonded path

But you have to ask the question does it have to be what is the planning permission requirements? Is there a law?

Resin Bonded Gravel driveway–how suitable is your tarmac or concrete?

Resin Bonded Gravel driveway–how suitable is your tarmac or concrete?

Been to quote for Sherwood Nottinghamshire (nice concrete driveway)  the surface is structurally sound it has  just suffered some surface damage – wear and tear, salt from the roads, and a bit of shelling (freeze/thaw effects of the weather we have been having over the past few years)   All beginning to make a less attractive finish  (if concrete of the standard type can ever be attractive).  The client had completed a few minor repairs on a very effective level, preventing deterioration  further. However if  resin bonded stone is  applied to this,  this would extend the life of the driveway even further,  protecting it and adding a level of durability.  In addition it would offer an   anti slip and weed inhibitive surface.

Just pricing this up,  nice reasonable size area of  56 sqm so will be getting the quote out this week. This does actually include the driveway not only on the front but on the side elevation as well.

One of our Mansfield  enquries  wanting to go ahead, with a few additional bits to sort.  The anti slip surfacing is very key for this client due to mobility.   Not only will this make it anti slip it will also virtually eliminate any weeds and massively reduce the maintenance requirements for this client.

Berry Hill Road Mansfield client visited.  Tarmac surface on this one and wanting to view some local drives.  There is already one on the same road we did some 8 years ago (very steep slope) and one we have completed recently on High Oakham Hill.  This clients drive is also quite steep and would certainly benefit from the anti slip properties of  a resin bonded drive,  particularly in winter time.

This Berry Hill Road client had already received a quote from a Resin Bound driveway company, but as we regularly say there is a difference between Resin Bound Gravel and  and Resin Bonded  Gravel applications.  Whilst water dispersing to the mains water is a consideration a permeable drive is not always the right alternative as it is no good the water being able to sit in between the new resin bound gravel  surface and the existing concrete or tarmac – freeze/ thaw effect and weeds,  can be an issue.

With regard to manholes we tend to leave existing as they are (obviously  they should be replaced if not in a good state of repair)  and just tape around the edges to provide a clean finish to the edge.  The resin bound installer who was quoting  was suggesting a cover plate (we thought tray at first but no a cover plate) they provide a removal lid which sits over the top of the manhole.   Not something we have come across before.

There is always the option to remove the existing and provide a new tray type that can be infilled with the Resin Bonded Gravel  but obviously cost comes into this.  There are also designer manholes now a days.  Worth a thought.

Sheffield, Chesterfield, Derby, Ilkeston, Alfreton, Shirland, Matlock, Sandiacre up to a 60 mile radius is within our area.
